Music festivals aren’t typically known for their beer selections.

More often than not, they feel like a best-of-the-worst-type scenario, a lot of overpriced but otherwise underwhelming suds.

The new Velorama music festival and Colorado Classic bike race this August will be different.

Drink RiNo, a newly formed trade association of 15 independently owned breweries, cideries, wineries and distilleries based in the River North Art District, will be the exclusive beer, wine and cider provider for both events, and among the all-local lineup is Our Mutual Friend, Ratio Beerworks, Great Divide Brewing Co., Infinite Monkey Theorem and Stem Ciders, to name a few.

The group of 15 local businesses also provides a free circulator service

The festival gig is the latest collaborative effort from a group that earlier this year launched a free circulator service to help make that RiNo pub crawl that you and your friends have been planning safer and more convenient.

“It’s all about keeping RiNo a place for small businesses,” said longtime RiNo business owner Sonia Danielsen, the self-described “den mother” of the group. “We’re seeing our first chains coming in. We’re seeing large corporate dollars. It’s important.”

The Drink RiNo Circulator is offered free of charge on First Fridays from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. and every Saturday from 2 to 10 p.m. Five stops are made on the 20-minute loop: 25th and Larimer streets, 29th and Larimer streets, 30th and Blake streets, 37th and Walnut streets, and 35th Street and Brighton Boulevard.

Transportation comes in the form of a six-person electric tuk tuk, provided by eTuk Denver, another RiNo-based business.

A punch card offering $1 off any beverage at each member location is also available with the purchase of a $25 Drink RiNo T-shirt. The shirts can be purchased at most member taprooms.

The group, formed to help RiNo’s independent craft beverage producers work together to grow their marketing and sponsorship abilities, is already looking for ways to expand the service with more vehicles and days.

With 15 independently owned breweries, cideries, wineries and distilleries in a one-mile radius, RiNo has one of the highest concentrations of adult craft beverage producers in the U.S., Danielsen said.

The members of Drink RiNo are: Beryl’s Beer Co. Bierstadt Lagerhaus, Bigsby’s Folly, Black Shirt Brewing Co., The Block Distilling Co., C Squared Ciders, Epic Brewing, Great Divide Brewing Co., Infinite Monkey Theorem Urban Winery, Ironton Distillery & Crafthouse, Mockery Brewing Co., Our Mutual Friend Brewing Co., Ratio Beerworks, Stem Ciders and Zephyr Brewing Co.
